Teaching, for me, is not so much a profession as a way of life. To see the light of understanding come on, to be a helping hand to another life wanderer, to make a difference and do it creatively are things that bring me great joy. Working at a Christian school adds even deeper dimensions and purpose to the art of teaching. At Spokane Junior Academy I am freely able to share my love and passion for God and a life wrapped in and directed by Him. Every moment in the classroom brings opportunities to be a model (even an imperfect one) of a God-centered life.

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.” This small phrase is the foundation of my teaching approach. Each child is unique and learns in his/her special way. My goal is to uncover the gifts and talents God has given to each child and to tap into those gifts to encourage learning.

Although paper/pencil activities have their place in my classroom, experiential learning is the goal. Learning that takes place through Christian service, team work, student interaction, experiments and other methods of “doing”, touch at the heart and soul of long-term remembering.

Academic learning needs to be firmly integrated with learning for eternity. Christian values and lifelong principles are interwoven through every activity; honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, patience, responsibility and respect for others are just a few of the skills emphasized on a daily basis.
